Monterrey is the capital city of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León, and is home to some of Mexico's most beautiful scenery. The mountains surrounding Monterrey offer a breathtaking landscape containing many canyons, trails and roads crossing deserts and forests. Suitable trails are available for casual hikers to expert rockclimbers. The biggest national park of the country, "Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey", walls the city on the south.
The club was originally designed by Architect John Bredamus in 1943, and redesigned in 1995 by Bill Love. The remodeled course added an additional 9 holes of golf, and optimizes the playing quality of the golf course in harmony with the conservation of the natural environment under economically sound and socially responsible management. The golf course incorporates restored natural habitat acreage for native populations of plants and wildlife, and provides opportunities for water conservation and incorporates an on site waste water plant to process water for the City of Heron, Garcia. This waste water replaces the potable water that was previously used for irrigation.
The overall design frames important views such as the fairway vistas, and shots over the onsite water bodies. This was accomplished with wall plantings between fairways and backdrop plantings behind greens. The course incorporates a vegetated "layered" appearance that adds natural beauty as well as biodiversity and wildlife habitat.
